John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute

John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute (JFR): | Student Population: 1850

THE SCHOOL: John F. Ross is located on the northeast outskirts of the city of Guelph. JFR has the highest enrollment in the Upper Grand District School Board due, in part, to its comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program and French Immersion program. The school attracts a diverse student body from Guelph and the nearby rural communities of Eramosa and Rockwood. We provide a challenging and broad curriculum, and educators who recognize and support the abilities and goals of each student, while fostering intercultural understanding and the pursuit of positive relationships, health and wellbeing.

THE CORE VALUES: Excellence in Learning ⋅ Personal Growth  Community

THE MISSION: To inspire students to be engaged learners who understand other people and perspectives within a changing local and global community.

THE COMMUNITY: The school’s E.L. Fox Auditorium serves as a meeting and performance arts centre for the student body, and is also a renowned and respected cultural hub for the greater local and regional community, with an ongoing schedule of professional dance, music, and theatrical performances. Located on the outskirts of the city, the school is also close to rural areas and to Guelph Lake, which offers two beaches and outdoor activities that include fishing, sailing, kayaking and canoeing.
