THE SCHOOL: Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI) has been educating students for more than 160 years and claims a unique and longstanding heritage as the oldest high school in the city of Guelph. Proud of our traditions and our diversity, while continuing to be innovative and engaging, the staff at GCVI seeks to support the goals and aspirations of every individual student. We foster the ability of each student to graduate with the tools to be a good person, a good citizen, a good employee and a lifelong learner.
THE CORE VALUES: Social Responsibility ⋅ Academic Rigor ⋅ Environmental Stewardship
THE MISSION: To help students become responsible young adults who think clearly, feel deeply, and act wisely to the best of their abilities.
THE COMMUNITY: Guelph is the largest city in our district, with a population of 120,000. For more than a decade, Guelph has been listed as one of the safest communities in Canada. A daily transit system gives students access to everything the city offers: numerous shopping malls, movie theatres, recreation and sports complexes, performing arts centres and educational institutions, including the University of Guelph and Conestoga College. Guelph was designed in the 1800s by a popular Scottish novelist, John Galt, who wanted it to be like European cities, where the city extends out from a city centre. That design remains today: a beautiful indoor shopping and commerce centre called “Old Quebec Street,” which has the look and feel of old Europe, is at the heart of the city in Downtown Guelph.
